The Church of San Francesco in Mazara del Vallo attracts attention with its architecture and religious significance. It is located in Mazara, on the coast of Sicily. The characteristic sign of the Arab district in Mazara del Vallo is the winding road system that leads to numerous courtyards. In the city centre there is one of the few mosques in Italy, called Mosche ettakwa, where the traditionals singing of the muezzin is heard 5 times a day. The Arab Kasbah is currently being renovated by Tunisians who compete with each other to lay more tiles on the facades.The Muslim fortress was built in the Arab-Norman style. Two of the ancient mosques where transformed into the present church of San Nicolo Regale and the current Cathedral of the Holy Savior, which was previously a large mosque.

Museum of the Dancing Satyr:

The main treasure of the museum is a „Dancing Satyr”, a statue of a mythical creature made of bronze, which seems to be dancing. The Satyr has been found in Ancient Italy in the city of Mazara del Vallo, and its founding was a real archeological success . In the museum you can find not only old Italian works of art but also Egiptian artefacts and Mezopotanian art.

Collegio dei Gesuiti:

Collegio dei Gesuiti in Mazara. Its construction began in 1672 and was completed in 1675. The architect of the building was Giacomo Napoli. It was the centre of education specialising in philosophy and theology. The church is full of statues and paintings made by respected Sicilian artists. 

Norman Arch Mazara del Vallo:

The Norman Arch in Mazara del Vallo is a charming remnant of a Norman castle, built around 1070 and destroyed in 1880. The arch is situated in a public garden on the Mazzini waterfront. The arch was the entrance to the castle built by Ruggero I d'Altavilla in 1072, being the symbol of the victory over the Arab conquest. It is a symbol and evidence of the past of the city and its ability to endure and overcome adversity. Owing to its architectural importance it is a symbol of the heritage of Mazara del Vallo.

Mazara del Vallo Cathedral:

Mazara del Vallo Cathedral is dedicated to the Holy Saviour and serves as the main Catholic place of worship in the city. It was built in 1093 by order of Gran Conte Ruggero I. The facade, completed in 1906, is one of the most beautiful ones in the entire city. The portal with a bas-relief of Count Roger on a horse, built in 1534, is of particular value with its majestic frame composed of two impressive side columns. The interior resembles a basilica divided into three naves separated by tuscan columns.

Originally, it was a Romanesque building, but over the years it underwent construction, which led to it gaining both Gothic and Baroque features. This fascinating architectural evolution is reflected in the variety of details and styles that can be seen throughout the entire building. It's worth mentioning that the temple is dedicated to St. Nicholas, one of the most respected saints in Christianity. His painting is placed in the main altar and is venerated by the local community.
